Track Meet

The boys entered the first annual Ellensburg Youth Track meet, and distinguished themselves pretty well.
Sergey entered two events and came out with a first place in the sprint--the 50 meter dash over a tough field (with two heats) of 5 and 6 year old boys. He also took second in the softball throw, despite being the smallest kid in it.
Lonya had a technical glitch in the 50 meter dash for 7 and 8 year olds, and a great jump that probably would have placed in the long jump if he hadn't scratched (they told me they wouldn't scratch on this, so we hadn't practiced about that). But he did a very fast leg in the 4 x 100 meter relay, the team coming in second. Alas, they told us after the race they didn't get ribbons for relay kids. But Sery, in a spontaneous burst of generosity, gave Lonya his red ribbon. Well earned by both! But even if they hadn't done so well, the sportsmanship they both showed made them tops in our book.
