Spring in Paradise

Sue and I took the opportunity to work on an archaeological excavation on Long Island in The Bahamas in April. We decided we just couldn't pass this adventure up. Then we decided we couldn't be away from the boys so long. Then we decided we needed a babysitter and decided to bring Sue's niece, Cari along to watch the boys. It was quite an entourage.
It was a delightful vacation. The dig was fascinating. The beaches were stunning. The water was wonderful. The boys were great travelers, as always, and Cari, the perfect child-minder, kept them occupied and happy. The other members of the excavation team were lots of fun. Sue and I took one day off in the middle to rent a car and head up island with the family to the pirate/Indian caves. We took a tour there, and then snorkelled in a perfect little inlet, calm as a swimming pool. The boys loved the snorkelling. We had most afternoons off for fun, and got to visit various beaches and swimming pools. The highlight of snorkelling came Friday afternoon when we were at a small reef off Cape Santa Maria beach, where Sue and I found ourselves in a National Geographic moment, surrounded by a school of thousands of fish, and then eye to eye with a huge barracuda that had been herding them. It was one of those memories of a lifetime.
The whole trip was relaxing and wonderful for the boys and us (maybe a little relaxing even for Cari!). We need to do more stuff like this.
