US Embassy
Candace, She-Who-Never-Gets-Sick, is sick with a sore throat and digestive upset. Sue is trying to carry a bit more of the load but Candace is a trooper. Sue keeps up with the shopping. It's backpack on, trudging 8-10 blocks through the slush (it finally rained today), and then back with a load. The boys are getting used to one of us being away for a short while. Lonya just now says that I'm going to the "magazin" and knows that I'll be back soon.
At 2:30, we complete the final hurdle here in Almaty---the US Embassy visit. It's what allows the boys to be able to enter the US without trouble. It should go fine but we are experiencing some difficulties with Almaty-Karaganda communications and slow, slow paperwork arrival. We'll let you know later what happened there.
The boys get more and more trusting as the days pass. Ahhh......

It's about time we got an update. I was looking and looking and got nothing, but FINALLY. :-)
Really sorry to hear that you aren't feeling well Candace. Hopefully you will have a quick recovery for the trip back. By now I hope you have the Embassy communication going smoothly. Every chore completed is one step closer to your coming home -- hooray!!!
It seems you learned the hard way (sometimes the best way to make lessons stick) to NEVER leave the house without basic baby supplies :-) Life is too unpredictable to bank on time away from home being "short". Also, as I'm sure you are finding out -- trips away from home take longer with children in tow because now, in addition to the main purpose for your trip, you are dealing with "whatever desires or needs" your two little ones come up with at the time.
Most parents have the opportunity for "gradual adjustments" as their children grow older -- you, on the other hand, get the "Big Whammy", having to learn about older children without going through infancy with them. It will provide some challenges, but it sounds like you are successfully tackling them head on :-)
From what I'm reading on your blog site, I can see great parenting going on :-) Keep up the god (oops, I meant "good" -- but maybe it should stay as God) work. Nancy
Hi Candance, Sue and boys,
We are things are going well and moving along. I am so glad that the boys are adjusting back to normal with you both. Candance, my Mom always says when you are not feeling well to drink, drink, drink. It flushes your system out.
Best to all of you, and Candance we hope you are feeling better soon.
Sorry you're not feeling well Candace - it's hard when you're at home - but being sick in a different country has got to be so much worse. Make sure you drink plenty of bottled water - even if you don't feel like it. You can finally begin to count down the hours until you're home with your boys and then the fun begins.....what a wonderful journey the four of you have ahead of yourselves. A dream come true for all of you. If there is something you need before you get home - please let us know! We are very anxious to meet your little angels.
